This January I feel like I have been hiding away a little. I’ve definitely not been out as often as I would usually be, because I feel I have had to recover from all the festive madness in December and have been in the midsts of planning a wedding that is only (OH MY GOODNESS) seven weeks away. However, I did pop out for one meal with a friend, and I felt given my current mood and situation it had to be something wholesome. So we went to the delightful Earthy, which can be found in Canonmills.
December was a wonderful month, full of parties and casual catch-ups with friends. One cold and rainy evening, a couple of my friends and I decided to seek shelter from the biting Scottish winter weather in the cosy snug that is the Rosehip – a warm and welcoming establishment on Rose Street in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town.
I’m a big pizza fan, so you can imagine as soon as I spotted that a new pizza place had opened up in the Old Town, I was keen to try it out. Tutto Matto has only recently opened but has already made a positive impression on a lot of my friends, so one evening in December Mr Bug and myself popped along to see what the deal was. Was this really something special, or just another in a long line of nondescript pizzerias?
I love December. All of your friends come out the woodwork and insist to meet up for a “catch-up before Christmas”, which I absolutely adore, however, it does mean I have a LOT of restaurant and bar reviews to get through! Still, it’s a great opportunity to see folks that I haven’t seen in a while, which was the case at the beginning of last month when an old friend and I went for dinner and a blether at The Potting Shed.
For the third and final part of my Edinburgh’s Hogmanay #blogmanay adventure, I spent New Years Day exploring hidden pockets of the Old Town as part of Scot:Lands – an intriguing collection of music, art and drama guaranteed to get your New Year off to a cultured start.
As part of the New Year festivities in Edinburgh, I was asked by the lovely people behind the celebrations to write about everything that goes on this time of year as part of #blogmanay. Yesterday I wrote about the breathtaking Torchlight Procession, but last night I went to the biggest jewel in Edinburgh’s Hogmanay crown – The Street Party – where tens of thousands of people descended on the city centre to mark the beginning of 2016.
