Those who follow this blog closely (Hello, Mum!) will probably know that I recently started a new job. Apart from the fact that I now do what I love every day (yup – I get to promote Edinburgh both on here AND in my day job!), I’ve been having so much fun getting to know my new surroundings. I’ve moved from the empty end of Leith to the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, where there are lots of cute cafés, independent shops and restaurants, and one of my favourite discoveries so far is Cairngorm Coffee Co.
Hidden underneath the belly of Frederick street, you have to keep a keen eye out to spot it. Just after you cross over George Street, you should see this little gem tucked down some stairs on the right hand side. Those eagle-eyed enough to spot it will be rewarded with some mighty fine coffee and absolutely decadent toasties!
The coffee is brilliant, and the last time I sat in I had a lovely frothy cappuccino. If you decide to sit in, you’ll probably find a steady stream of office workers coming in and getting their caffeine fix to go – most who work in the area are well aware of the quality of coffee from here and its popularity has spread quite effectively from word of mouth. You’ll sometimes find people having impromptu meetings here, too.
Cairngorm Coffee Co. is also a popular spot for lunch, with their toasties being something of a legend in my new office. I was reluctant to believe the hype but it is true – the toasties from here are pretty incredible.
I love the three cheese and chilli jam toasty – the cheese just oozes out of the bread and the chilli jam gives it a little bit of a kick, but one that most people will find bearable spice-wise.
Cairngorm Coffee Co. is a firm favourite with locals, and yet it would take a particularly observant visitor to spot it. Keep an eye out next time you are in town and enjoy this truly hidden gem!
