There are very few people who live in Edinburgh that haven’t heard of Mimi’s Bakehouse. It’s a bit of an institution around these parts, and for good reason. Their belly-busting cakes and traybakes are absolutely legendary, and if you want to make an instant friend out of me, just treat me to one of their afternoon teas!
If you want a cheap and satisfying lunch in the Old Town, look no further than Elephants and Bagels. Granted, they only have bagels on the menu, but they have such a huge variety and a wide range of varieties that there is – quite literally – something for everyone.
Mr Bug and I popped into Contini Royal Mile Café last weekend to enjoy a spot of ice cream. The rain was hammering down but we had acquired a couple of vouchers and we were determined to cash them in. Our summer has been a bit of a washout so far but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy summery treats, gad dang it!
The weather was glorious in Edinburgh last Friday (stop chuckling at the back there – it does happen sometimes!). The sun was shining, it was balmy and warm and I just wanted a spot to sit and watch the world go by. So, when I spotted a free table outside Wellington Coffee on Hanover Street, I snapped that bad boy right up.
I caught up with a couple of friends a week or so ago in Bruntsfield. The sun was shining, it was still fairly early in the day so it seemed like a good idea to enjoy a spot of breakfast in Montpeliers – one of the most popular bar/restaurants in the area.
Those who follow this blog closely (Hello, Mum!) will probably know that I recently started a new job. Apart from the fact that I now do what I love every day (yup – I get to promote Edinburgh both on here AND in my day job!), I’ve been having so much fun getting to know my new surroundings. I’ve moved from the empty end of Leith to the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, where there are lots of cute cafés, independent shops and restaurants, and one of my favourite discoveries so far is Cairngorm Coffee Co.
Eteaket is a pretty well-known name in Edinburgh. Their loose leaf teas are sold in cafes and shops all around the city, but they also have their very own tearoom, located just off George Street in the New Town, making it the perfect place to stop off for a wee refreshment during a wee day of retail therapy!
Whenever I get stuck on trying to decide where to go next for a meal out, I always like to ask my friends. Between us, I think we have a pretty comprehensive knowledge of the Edinburgh dining scene and they are always able to remind me of places I haven’t thought of. This time around, I was craving some Italian and the opinion was unanimous – I had to try out Taste of Italy.
This post has been, quite literally, months in the making. I know the owner from a previous life and the place has a fantastic reputation, so shortly after I started up Edinbug nearly 4 months ago, Brew Lab was high on my list of places to cover. So why has it taken me so long to get something written about it?
With the cold days and the nights drawing in, last weekend I sought some warm comfort in Piecebox, which is located in the heart of Polwarth.
